Mission

The mission of the Spartan Aquatics Club (SPAC) is to provide opportunity and encouragement for all of its swimmers to make an uncompromising commitment to the pursuit of excellence, and, through the process of striving to be the best that they can be, to acquire life-enhancing attributes such as integrity, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

How to Join

Any swimmer interested in SPAC is required to participate in an evaluation swim. The evaluation swim will take only 10-20 minutes and will focus on stroke technique, underwater starts, turns, and endurance. To schedule the evaluation, please contact Coach JJ.

We also offer a one week free trial for more tentative swimmers.

Location

Spartan Aquatics Club is located at St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park, Florida, convenient to locations around Clay County and Jacksonville. We are about ten minutes from Fleming Island, five minutes from Blanding Blvd., 15 minutes from NAS Jacksonville, and ten minutes from I-295.

Please note, entry to campus is from Doctors Lake Drive. Please do not attempt to enter from Moody Road. Once your enter through the campus gates, proceed straight after the stop sign and you will see the pool on your right. Additional parking is available beyond the pool, in the Performing Arts Center and North Fields parking lots.

Practice Groups & Times

White Group (Ages 6-10)

Focuses on improving swimmers through the development of skilled technique in the four competitive strokes and their associated skills (e.g., turns, starts, training pool conduct). Since skill is the major determinant of swimming success, its emphasis from the beginning of a competitive swimming experience should be the central focus for improvement. Participants are assumed to initially have unsophisticated competitive swimming styles.

Entrance Skills:

Rhythmic breathing for 25 yards
Efficient streamlining
Continuous flutter kick for 25 yards
Good listening skills
Freestyle and backstroke competent

Practices:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
2-3 practices per week

Meet Attendance:

1 meet per month
1-2 days per meet

Blue Group (Ages 9-12)

Advances the teachings of the White Group plus introduces training etiquette and procedures. The performance of all strokes is required and emphasized equally. The underlying assumption is that training without good technique is detrimental to good swimming development and performance.

Entrance Skills:

Efficient streamlines and kicking
Proficiency in all four strokes
Interval/clock recognition
Refined starts and turns
Proper lane etiquette

Practices:

3-4 practices per week
Monday - Saturday, 5:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.

Meet Attendance:

1 meet per month
1-2 days per meet

Gold Group (Ages 10-13)

Completes the instruction of techniques and the concentration on correct swimming. Swimmers will be introduces to dry land techniques and safety precautions. Technical efficiency and control should be stressed along with an expansion of other swimming requirements (e.g., mental skills, advanced racing skills, full training schedule with moderate volume).

Entrance Skills:

Proficiency in all four strokes
1-2 years previous swim experience
Correct starts and turns in all four strokes
Has competitively swam 50 yards of each stroke
Has competitively swam 2 or more 100 yard events
Has previous long course experience
6 x 50 yards freestyle @ 1 minute
6 x 50 yards kick @ 1 minute 30 seconds
Proper lane etiquette

Practices:

3-5 practices each week
Monday – Saturday 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Meet Attendance:

1 meet per month
Full participation in either a 2 or 3 day meet

Juniors (Ages 12+)

Strength and speed work become a focus of this group at they compete in monthly swim meets.

Entrance Skills:

Excellent kicking and streamlining
Efficient in all four strokes
Has competitively swam 100 yards of each stroke
Dry land experience from the previous group
Competitively swam 3 or more 200 yards or meter events
6 x 100 yards freestyle @ 1 minute 30 seconds
6 x 100 yards kick @ 2 minutes

Practices:

4-5 practices each week
Monday – Saturday 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Meet Attendance:

1 - three day meet per month
Focus on highest level qualified meet during end of season

Seniors (14+)

Seniors (Ages 14+)

This age group typically is comprised of high school and middle school swimmers separated into groups based on speed and stroke focus. Swimmers in this group should have Florida Senior Champs Bonus Cuts.

Entrance Skills:

Focused on details of all strokes by including turns and streamlines
Competitive experience at age group championships
Further developed comprehension of dry land techniques and safety
Attitude of eagerness to excel
Proficiency of all strokes regardless of distance
10 x 100 yards freestyle @ 1 minute 30 seconds
10 x 100 yards kick @ 2 minutes
500 yard freestyle faster than 6 minutes 30 seconds

Practices:

4-6 practices each week
Monday – Saturday 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Meet Attendance:

100% full meet attendance
Focus on highest level qualified meet during end of season

Fees & Dues

Annual USA-Swimming Membership Fee

Once a year, the USA-Swimming Membership fee of $85 per swimmer will be collected at the registration.

Spartan Aquatics Registration Fee

There is an annual SPAC individual swimmer fee of $125. The family fee is $75 per swimmer.

Monthly Dues

Monthly dues are charged on the first of each month. There are no pro-rates or reimbursements for monthly dues. All members must sign up through and use our simple online registration and payment portal.

White Group - $110.00/mo
Blue Group - $130.00/mo
Gold Group - $135.00/mo
Juniors - $150.00/mo
Seniors - $160.00/mo

Spartan Aquatics Meet Fees

This fee goes toward mileage, hotels, etc,. for SPAC coaching staff. SPAC meet fees are charged only if you attend travel meets. Travel meet fees will be based on actual costs.

Meet Entry Fees

Meet entry fees go to pay the meet host for the swimmers' participation in the meet. Meet fees are charged only if you attend that specific meet. Typical meet fees:

Facility Fee - $10.00
Event Fee - $4.00

Meet fees are subject to change according to Florida Swimming.
