Spartans Honored as Greater Jax Athletes of the Year

The Greater Jacksonville High School Sports Awards were held Monday night at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, FL, and St. Johns was honored to have three individual athletes and one team awarded:

  • Baseball Player of the Year: Bradley Hodges
  • Girls Basketball Player of the Year: Taliah Scott
  • Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year: Matthew Stratton
  • Soccer Girls Team of the Year: St. Johns Country Day School

Part of the Gannett USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the ceremony honored more than 200 nominated high school athletes from across the Greater Jacksonville area, and awarded players of the year for more than 20 sports. Nominees are selected through statistical analysis, game coverage, and from coach or athletic director feedback.

"It's a tremendous honor and speaks highly of an athletics program for a school to receive just one of these honors," said Director of Athletics Traci Livingston, "so for St. Johns to receive four means a lot. I am truly humbled, grateful, and proud of all the work put in by our student-athletes and coaches every day."

The awards also included several major awards, including overall Girls Player of the Year, Boys Player of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year and Courage Award.
