St. Johns Welcomes New Head of Middle School

St. Johns Welcomes New Head of Middle School
Head of Middle School Ben Magidson

St. Johns is thrilled to announce a new Head of Middle School, Mr. Ben Magidson. Mr. Magidson comes to St. Johns from King School, in Stamford, Connecticut, and begins his St. Johns tenure on Friday, July 1.

“I look forward to welcoming Ben and his family to St. Johns,” said Head of School Valorie Baker. "Ben brings a plethora of experience to the Middle School that not only will continue to support a strong foundation, but help enhance and develop new and exciting programs for our Middle School students, faculty, and families.”

Magidson was born and raised in Miami, served 5 years in the U.S. Army, and received his undergraduate degree in Spanish with a minor in history from Pennsylvania’s Albright College, where he also played soccer. He went on to earn master's degrees from Kaplan University and Concordia University and served as a Middle School history teacher (2007-2016) and as Dean of Students (2011-2018) at Scheck Hillel Community Day School in North Miami Beach, Florida, before moving to Connecticut.

At King, Magidson most recently served as Dean of Students and Associate Head of Middle School, allowing him to work closely with both teachers and students, which he enjoyed. When he saw the listing for a Head of Middle School at St. Johns, though, says Magidson, he was “instantly intrigued,” and after coming to Jacksonville to meet and interview with members of the School community, the position was even more exciting.

“My wife, Carly, and I are eager and ready to join the St Johns community,” says Magidson, ”to meet everyone, and to get to work and carry on the great tradition that is St Johns Country Day School.”
